Description
Students are expected in the fourth semester to be on an advanced level of the German language for legal purposes and to intensively connect linguistic and legal knowledge they acquire in the courses held in their mother tongue. A large segment of the contents in this semester is dedicated to the European law, so that students can apply the knowledge from the course European public law in the German course and vice versa. Besides dealing with the EU institutions, sources of the European law and procedures before the Court of Justice of the EU, in this last semester of German for Legal Purposes students deal with issues of inheritance law, types of business organisations and key aspects of employment law. The six units are entitled as follows: Law of Succession, European Law I (sources of EU law), European Law II (EU institutions), European Law III (common EU market), German Company Law and Employment Law.

During the work on each of the units students are expected to compare legal institutes in different legal systems and to analyse the position of the Republic of Croatia in the context of EU. Besides working on single legal terms, collocations and multi-word expressions, students practice syntactical structures that are frequent in German language of law (different types of clauses that express cause and effect relationship, the way of performing an action, the reason why a situation happens, etc. ). Students are expected to choose a topic and to prepare a PowerPoint presentation. In completion of this task students can work alone or in a pair.
