EU/EEA citizens can enter Croatia with a valid ID card (or passport) and will need to register at the Central Police Station to regulate the residence permit if staying for more than 3 months.

Citizens of the USA, Australia, Canada, etc. (for a full list please check the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs website) can enter Croatia with a valid passport and upon their arrival in Zagreb apply for the residence permit. Please reach out to the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in your country of residence and ask the embassy staff for more information on the application process.

NON-EU/EEA citizens coming from a country that has a visa regime with the Republic of Croatia need to apply for a visa via the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in their home country before departing for Croatia.

Residence Permit

 

EU/Swiss Citizens

MOBILITY PERIOD LONGER THAN 90 DAYS

EU citizens planning to study in Croatia for more than 90 days are required to apply for approval of the temporary stay for the purpose of studies (dozvola boravka).

Incoming students should submit their application for the issuance of the residence card within 90 days of their arrival in Croatia at:

Central Police Station, Foreigners’ Office (Odsjek za strance, Policijska uprava Zagrebačka)

Petrinjska ulica 30 (Petrinjska Street No. 30)

Working hours: 8am – 3:30 pm.

 

MOBILITY PERIOD SHORTER THAN 90 DAYS

EU citizens are not required to apply for a temporary stay approval, or to register their residence, if they are staying in Croatia for less than 90 days.

Incoming students should submit their application for the issuance of the residence card within 90 days upon their arrival in Croatia at:

Central Police Station, Foreigners’ Office (Odsjek za strance, Policijska uprava Zagrebačka)

Petrinjska ulica 30 (Petrinjska Street No. 30)

Working hours: 8am – 3:30 pm.

 

Non-EU Citizens

MOBILITY PERIOD LONGER THAN 90 DAYS

Non-EU citizens staying in Croatia for more than 90 days are required to apply for the temporary stay approval for the purpose of studies (dozvola boravka) within 48 hours of their arrival in Croatia.

 

MOBILITY PERIOD SHORTER THAN 90 DAYS

Upon your arrival in Croatia and if you are staying in a private accommodation (rented apartment or similar), you need to register your residence within 48 hours at:

Central Police Station, Foreigners’ Office (Odsjek za strance, Policijska uprava Zagrebačka)

Petrinjska ulica 30 (Petrinjska Street No. 30)

Working hours: 8am – 3:30 pm.

For students  staying at hotels or student residence halls the address will be automatically registered in the police system.

 

Documents Required for the Temporary Stay Registration

  1. Form1b (EU citizens)
  2. Form1a (NON-EU citizens)
  3. Acceptance Letter (in Croatian) from the University of Zagreb stating the study purpose of your stay. (You will receive this document upon your arrival to our faculty.)
  4. 1 photo of your face (ID or passport photo dimensions: 35x45mm)
  5. Proof of sufficient means of subsistence (bank account statement, scholarship confirmation or similar
  6. Proof of secured accommodation
  7. Proof of health insurance – copy of the insurance policy
  8. Certificate of non-criminal record with apostille (non-EU citizens only coming from non-EU countries)
  9. Original and a copy of your ID or passport

NOTE:

  • if staying at a student residence hall you are automatically registered in the police system (no additional documents are required)
  • in case of a private accommodation, a rental contract and a proof of ownership (vlasnički list) not older than 6 months needs to be provided

 

Permit Cost (Administrative Fee)

EU citizens do not pay any administrative fees.

NON-EU citizens need to pay a fee which ranges from 66.36 € to 98.21 €, depending on the mobility programme.

IMPORTANT: All documents need to be translated into Croatian and certified by a public notary.
