INTELLECTUAL (COGNITIVE) SKILLS
Knowledge and understanding
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- define basic categories of the role of religion in society (definition of religiosness,key processes of the role of religion in society, basic model of church-state relations etc.);
- recognise social expectations from religious communities /what citizens expect and why);
- understand important differences between different religious communities that act in Croatia;
- explain forms and methods of social activity of religious communities (what they do in social area)
Application
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- group and describe key categories of the relation betwen religion and society (f.e. the relation between secularisation and revitalisation of religion, models of the relation between politics and religion);
- interpret difference of the role of religious communities
- illustrate methods of social activity of religious communities in soeciety.
Analysis
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- distinguish religious communities considering their teaching and role in society;
- compare methods of activity of religious communities (which methods they use, on which level and in which area);
- categorise social interventions of religious communities;
- analyse in detail the activity of one religious community i.e. its organisational unit.
Synthesis
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- construct the connection between the role of religion ins ociety with other social phenomena (f.e. in which social processes is it possible to explain expectations from religious communities);
- construct the connection between social activity of religious communities and the system of social policy and methods of social work;
- propose changes in social activity of religious communities.
Evaluation
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- assess social circumstances of expectation from religious communities;
- evaluate the role of individual religious communities;
- compare advantages and disadvantages of individual forms of social action.
Knowledge will be tested by mid-term exams, presentation and grade of an essay, grade for class participation and final interview with the teacher.
Mid-terrm exam
Mid-term contains 5 questions of an essay type in whcih the students demonstrate acquired knowledge (define, group and describe basic categories of religion in society; recognise social expectations from religious communities; understand important differences between different religious communities that are active in Croatia and their relations with the state; interpret different roles of religious communities). Four points can be given for each answer, and the student has to earn at least 11 points.
Essay
Every student will write an essay about social activity of a religious community i.e. its organisational unit. The essay is written on the basis of collecting data about social activity of a community, using already acquired knowledge (mid-term exam) and the knowledge acquired by visiting religious communities (organised visits). In writing the essay, the student will have to demonstrate acquired knowledge and skills. Students work in pairs and thus learn and demonstrate the ability of team work.
Presentation and final interview
In the presentation of the essay and fin final interview the students have to clearly express themselves and presnt acquired learning outcomes. They also have to be able to assess social circumstances of expectations from religious communities, evaluate the role of individual religious communities, compare advantages and disadvantages of individual forms of social activity and propose changes in social activity of religious communities.
